Residents of Buenos Aires's Villa Devoto have been taking to their balconies every night for ten minutes of pure party joy to chase away the coronavirus lockdown blues.
Marcela Alvarez who says she initiated the balcony party stated on Friday «I was very sad, I went out of the door and it was a terrible silence,» and so she decided to decorate her balcony with Christmas lights and play music... Еще from her balcony with her daughter. The balcony party soon caught on with the neighbours and has since become a daily event starting every day at 8:00 pm local time (23:00 GMT) for 10 minutes.
Resident Oscar Alberto said the daily ritual, «allows us to also free ourselves and we have fun for a while releasing the energy that we have stored up inside a little, then this makes us come together.»
The event has since developed into a humanitarian initiative as the residents, neighbourhood clubs and local associations have begun collecting food and clothing for people in need during the coronavirus pandemic.
In Argentina, a nationwide lockdown was announced by President Alberto Fernandez on March 3 and was later extended until May 24.
