Portugal: Mogherini demands 'thorough investigation' into Khashoggi disappearance

The European Union expects a full investigation into the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the EU High Representative of Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said at a press conference in Lisbon on Tuesday. Mogherini said the EU «are fully aligned with the US position on this. We expect a thorough investigation and full transparency from the Saudi authorities... Еще on what has happened.» Khashoggi went to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul a week ago to prepare documents for a forthcoming marriage. His fiancée claimed she waited outside for him for 11 hours, but he did not return. Turkish officials claim to have evidence of his murder. In his turn, Portuguese Foreign Minister Augusto Santos Silva commented on the death of the jailed Venezuelan opposition lawmaker Fernando Alban. «We are trying to obtain all possible information to understand the circumstances under which the death occurred and obviously death is the most terrible thing that can happen and it only harms the security, stability and predictability that should exist in Venezuela as in other countries», Silva stated. Venezuela's government claimed on Monday that Alban killed himself by jumping from the 10th floor of the state intelligence agency headquarters, while his supporters believed the lawmaker was murdered by the government.
