Survivors, family members, political and religious leaders and others gathered at the site of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of its liberation by the Soviet Red Army on Saturday. Footage shows the nighttime vigil within the former Nazi concentration camp, with visitors watching on behind fences and religious leaders holding joint prayers... Еще and ceremonies to remember the crimes committed. Survivors also attended the event to pay tribute to those who died during the Holocaust. Auschwitz II-Birkenau is a former Nazi German concentration camp. During World War II at least 1.1 million people, mostly Jews, were killed at the camp. On July 2, 1947, the Polish government decreed that the camp shall become a state memorial to the victims of Nazism, a purpose it has served ever since.
