As polls opened for the second round of the 2020 Polish presidential election on Sunday morning, locals shared their thoughts and feelings on this national vote upon exiting a polling station in Rybnik.
The presidential election sees incumbent President Andrzej Duda as he hopes to carry forward the momentum he had from the first round, in which he won 43.6 per cent of the vote. His opponent from the Civic Platform, Warsaw mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, won 30.3 per cent.
Interviews from the Rybnik polling station on Sunday morning show voters sharing opinions on both sides of the vote.
«I think that Trzaskowski will be a better president. That it will be better, he will do his best. Because I see that he is very energetic. I think it would be better if he became president,» stated local resident Wanda while leaving the polling station. «Mr. Duda, the current president is not telling the truth,» Wanda went on to say.
«Why is my business why. He is doing everything well, he speaks well. He is a good president. and I have already experienced many presidents in my life. Everyone else just made promises,» answered local resident Franciszek upon being asked why exactly he voted for Andrzej Duda.
Officials could be seen using face shields and masks for protection due to the coronavirus pandemic. The first round of the election was planned for May 10 but later postponed due to the coronavirus crisis.
