Philippines: Typhoon Mangkut leaves trail of destruction

Communities are counting the cost of Typhoon Mangkhut, locally known as Ompong, after it tore though northern Philippines. Blocked roads, collapsed roofs and flooding caused havoc to Aparri in the northern Cagayan province on Sunday. Residents were forced to flee to evacuation centres in winds of up 185km/h (115mph). The typhoon made landfall at Baggao, in the north-east of the main island of Luzon, at about 01:40 local time on Saturday (17:40 GMT on Friday). It is now headed towards southern China.
