Philippines: Protesters torch Duterte image on Marawi siege anniversary

Hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the presidential palace in Manila, Wednesday, to denounce Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte on the first anniversary of the Marawi siege and the declaration of martial law in Mindanao. Protesters burnt and ripped apart a banner depicting Duterte holding a US-flagged bomb in one hand and a bloodied knife in the other. They also carried banners... Еще featuring slogans such as «stop aerial bombings» and «never again to martial law.» The battle for Marawi saw a five-month offensive by Philippines government forces against militants including the Maute, a group affiliated with the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIL/ISIS).
