Philippines: Protesters in Manila burn Duterte effigy for Urban Poor Solidarity Week

A crowd of protesters led by urban poor group Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (KADAMAY), burnt an effigy of Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte to decry the leader's «anti-poor» policies, at the gates of the Malacanang Presidential Palace in Manila, Friday. Speaking on Duterte's legacy in power, one protester stated that «He uses violence to sow fear in the poor and keep them from fighting for... Еще their rights. He uses his war on drugs to stop people's grievances about livelihood and their fight against demolitions,» adding that he did not keep his promises on housing and livelihood because demolition never stopped in different communities.» The demonstration was held during the Urban Poor Solidarity Week 2017.
