A cargo ship carrying some 25 tonnes (25,610 kg) of electronic waste from Hong Kong has reportedly left the Mindanao International Container Terminal in Tagoloan on Monday.
The garbage, some 25,610 kilogrammes of crushed electronic materials and plastic scraps from Hong Kong, reportedly arrived to the Philippines on January 2 but was only discovered on May 22.
EcoWaste Coalition National... Еще Coordinator Aileen Lucero explained the late discovery, saying that the «some of the containers can be misdeclared.»
Lucero stressed that sending the garbage back to the countries of origin «is a serious message to all that the Philippines is not a dumpsite of the world.»
Last week, Philippine authorities shipped some 69 containers of waste to Canada, who they accused of illegally disposing it in the Philippines between 2013 and 2014. According to reports, the waste was shipped to the Philippines in 2013 and 2014, allegedly labelled as recyclable material.
