Philippines: Anti-Duterte protests after orders to shoot female rebels 'in the vagina'

Protesters took to the streets of Manila to express outrage over Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte's recent remarks calling for military personnel to shoot the vaginas of rebels and dissidents during counterinsurgency operations, on Wednesday. The rally was convened as part of the One Billion Rising Revolution movement against violence towards women. Protesters dismembered an effigy of... Еще Duterte, cutting off tongues that represented his remarks. Protesters were mostly women, and included a few minorities from Mindanao. Speaking to a group of former communist insurgents on February 7, Duterte appeared to incite the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to target women in conflict. «Tell the soldiers 'There's a new order coming from the mayor. We won't kill you. We will just shoot you in the vagina,'» he said, according to media reports. He then reportedly added «If there is no vagina, it would be useless.»
