Philippines: 3,000 islanders descend on Manila to protest Duterte's ongoing war on drugs

Some 3,000 protesters from the islands of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao descended upon the gates of the presidential palace at Mendiola Bridge, Manila, Thursday, to decry rising extra-judicial killings under Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte’s ‘war on drugs’. The protest comes after increased militarisation in the rural areas as the war in Marawi and Martial Law in Mindanao entered its 100th day... Еще. The protesters, most of whom travelled from their local provinces for days, hurled paint at an image of Duterte in display of their anger at what they see as the leader's abuse of power. The recent death of 17-year-old Kian Loyd Delos Santos, who was killed by police amidst a ‘crack-down’ on drug dealers and addicts, has stirred resistance to Duterte's bloody war on drugs.
