Dozens of health care workers protested in the streets of Lima on Monday to demand better working conditions and the hiring of more staff to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
Police were seen beating some protesters with batons, a water cannon was also spotted being used to disperse crowds.
Protesters chanted slogans such as «healthcare will win» and «urgent, urgent, change of president» during the protest.
Protesters tried to reach the National Congress, where a debate on a vote of no confidence against President Martin Vizcarra to decide whether he should be removed from office was taking place, following corruption allegations.
To date, Peru has registered a total of 922,333 cases of COVID-19 and 34,879 deaths related to the disease, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
