Peru: Imprisoned Fujimori pardoned by Kuczynski after hospitalisation

Former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori was pardoned by sitting President Pablo Pedro Kuczynski on Sunday after the ex-leader was admitted to hospital the previous day. In a statement, Kuczynski said that Fujimori was being released due to his ill health. A small group gathered near the Peruvian-Japanese centenary hospital where Fujimori is being treated in support of him, chanting slogans... Еще and holding banners that read 'Chinese, freedom.' “He is a man who transformed our country and we should never forget that. He is a peace-making man, a man who fought for every Peruvian, defeating terrorism”, claimed one of the supporters. Fujimori was taken from his jail cell to hospital in Lima after suffering from a sudden drop in blood pressure on Saturday. Doctors say the illness is potentially life threatening and it comes after the 79-year-old was hospitalised twice this year due to an abnormal heart rhythm. Fujimori, who was president of the South American state from 1990 to 2000, is serving a 25-year sentence for human rights abuses which he was convicted for in 2009.
