Peru: Government survives vote of confidence in congress

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra's government won a vote of confidence after two days of debate in the opposition-controlled congress on Wednesday. 77 legislators approved the motion, while 44 voted against and three abstained. Vizcarra had threatened to dissolve the cabinet if lawmakers don’t approve his anti-corruption proposals. «We hope that the president of the republic and especially the... Еще mobilized and organized citizens demand this parliament fulfill its promise. We will be waiting», said congresswoman Marisa Glave after the vote. The government will now begin talks with the opposition about introducing anti-corruption reforms. They range from cleaning up campaign financing, limiting lawmakers’ immunity and banning ex-convicts from running for office.
