Peru: Demonstrators hit Lima as newly-elected interim President Sagasti addresses people

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Lima's streets on Monday, following the resignation of interim President Manuel Merino and the Congress' election of Francisco Sagasti as a new interim president. «It is a moment of reflection, it is a moment to ask ourselves where it was that we lost our way. It is a time to amend and it is a time to move decisively towards a better future for all Peruvians,» said Sagasti speaking outside the Congress. Janet Quiroga, one of the demonstrators supported the new interim leader, calling him a «professional,» while another one, Alejandra Carpio, said that she wanted dismissed Martin Vizcarra to come back. Merino, who took office less than a week ago after the dismissal of Martin Vizcarra, announced his «irrevocable» resignation in a televised address to the nation on Sunday, minutes after the Congress demanded that he quits his post.
