Participants get their hands dirty at annual COW DUNG throwing contest

Each year Lyon's cow dung throwing contest has hundreds of participants tossing discs of dried cow dung to set a new record, footage filmed on Saturday shows. Around 250 people took part in the fifth edition on Saturday, for which 400 discs of dung were stocked and used. The best launch reached 31 metres, five more than last year's best score. The contest, which took place five years ago for... Еще the first time, draws people from across France. Contestants are allowed to two tosses per person and whoever gets to launch the dung the furthest wins the challenge. The day was also filled with music and food, with people enjoying the drumming of batucada and visiting local food stalls. Beyond the fun, the event was first held to raise awareness about ecology and sustainable development, as one of the organisers explained. «Today the French Championship of cow dung is starting in the context of an ecologic event started five years ago and that started as a bit of a crazy project, almost a bet! The idea was to organize a funny cow dung launching contest which allowed to link all this to a more global project related to ecology, particularly to recycling.»
