Panama: Presidents Xi and Varela discuss closer cooperation

Chinese President Xi Jinping called on his Panamanian counterpart Juan Carlos Varela to help deepen cooperation between the two countries, during a press conference in Panama City on Monday. Xi said that the two countries have reached agreements «in areas including trade, finance, customs, civil aviation, tourism, culture and education» and will continue to strengthen cooperation, focusing on... Varela stated «Panama connects two oceans, and your visit consolidates our country as China's commercial arm and gateway to Latin America.» The presidents both pointed out the importance of the 'One China Policy' for bilateral relations. «The support of Panama to the 'One China Policy' and your role as a global leader looking for peace and prosperity is firm and strong,» Varela stated. Xi arrived in Panama on Sunday for a state visit to the Central American country, the first of its kind since the two nations established diplomatic ties in June 2017.
