Thousands of protesters gathered in Quetta at the Ayub Stadium for an anti-government rally organised by the Pakistan Democratic Alliance (PDM) which unites several opposition parties, Sunday.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif addressed the protesters via video, saying «The time has come to overthrow Imran Khan's government standing on crutches (of the military). The time has come to question all those who have played with the law and the constitution.»
Sharif's daughter, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, was seen sharing the stage at a rally with other opposition leaders. Sharif, who had been sentenced to ten years in prison in connection with the Panama Papers case, was granted permission to go abroad for four weeks for medical reasons and has been in London since November 2019.
The Pakistani government has already sent an extradition request to the UK but Sharif's doctors reportedly said that it would be too dangerous for him to travel amid the coronavirus pandemic.
