Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Karachi on Sunday to denounce a dance allegedly performed inside the historic Wazir Khan mosque in Lahore.
Demonstrators could be seen holding up banners and chanting slogans against what they consider to be desecration of the mosque, in a protest which was organised by the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jama'at (ASWJ) religious group.
«A few days back, they set a very bad example by dancing with music inside the mosque,» said ASWJ Chief, Aurangzaib Farooqi who called on the government to punish all people involved in the incident.
A video of a song and dances of actress Saba Qamar and singer Bilal Saeed went viral on the social media platform TikTok leading to strong criticism by religious groups.
Two senior officers were reportedly fired for allowing Qamar and Saeed to perform inside the mosque.
