Pakistan: Jamiat supporters clash with police in Peshawar amid FATA/KP merger vote

Members of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) party clashed with police outside the Khyber Paktunkhwa (KP) Assembly in Peshawar, amid protests against the union of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with the Khyber Paktunkhwa administrative province. Protesters burned tires and attempted to block the PK parliament entrance before being cleared by baton-charging police. Five... Еще people were reportedly injured in clashes which saw protesters throwing stones at riot police. Up to 20 people have reportedly been detained. The JUI-F has been opposing the merger and demanding a referendum to search for the consensus of tribal communities on the issue. Protesters have accused the bill to be dictated by foreign interests. Despite the protests, the KP parliament managed to approve the KP-FATA merger bill with two-thirds majority.
