Pakistan: Ex-PM Sharif sentenced to 10 years in prison on election eve

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to 10 years in prison by an Islamabad court on Friday over corruption changes relating to his four luxury London flats. Sharif, four-time Prime Minister who was ousted from office in 2017 by the supreme court over money-laundering investigations triggered by the so-called 'Panama Papers' leak, is currently living in London with his... Еще daughter Maryam Nawaz, who was also sentenced to 7 years in prison. The former PM is expected to return to Pakistan for his appeal and according to party ally Tariq Fazal Chaudhry «he is not afraid, he will not bow down.» His return might have a positive effect on the Pakistan Muslim League PML-N ahead of the general elections on 25th of July, while his absence in turn could weaken party's positions.
