Pakistan: Daughter of ex-Pakistani PM appears in court, calls corruption allegations a 'joke'

Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, appeared before an accountability court inside the Judicial Complex in Islamabad on Monday. Nawaz along with his daughter Maryam, his son-in-law Mohammed Safdar and his two sons Hussain Nawaz and Hazzan Nawaz, face corruption charges after documents were leaked from a Panama law firm suggesting that the family had... Еще undisclosed assets abroad. The family has denied the accusations. Speaking outside the court, Nawaz said it was a «joke» that the family is facing trial despite the disqualification of her father from his position as prime minister. She went on to deny the allegations. «They will get no answer because these are false allegations, so I know very well what is going on here but God willing we will not be afraid of this.» Her husband Safdar was arrested at Islamabad airport early Monday morning on his return from London, by Pakistan's anti-corruption body. The court was told that ex-PM Sharif did not appear for the proceedings as he is in London attending to his sick wife.
