Officials in Northern Cyprus said on Monday that its territory was hit overnight by what appears to be a Russian-made S-200 missile. Footage filmed in the Tashkent region, about 19 km (12 miles) north of Nicosia, in the early hours of Monday shows a fire caused by the explosion.
Turkish Cypriot Foreign Minister Kudret Ozersay told local media that 'the missile was a stray Russian-made S-200 that... Еще was fired in response to Israeli missile attacks'. Ozercay said it may have been launched by a Syrian anti-aircraft system. Turkish Cypriot officials suggested the missile missed its target and fell in Northern Cyprus, nearly 193 kilometers west of the Syrian territory.
Syrian state news agency SANA reported that four civilians were killed and 21 injured in Israeli air strikes near Damascus early on Monday.
Israel Defence Forces (IDF) has not issued a statement regarding the reported attacks in Syria.
