The president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus visited on Monday the crash site of what officials say was a Russian-made S-200 missile. It fell on a slope in the Tashkent region, about 19 km north of Nicosia, causing a fire. Footage shows security officials examining the location.
Speaking shortly after the incident and before any preliminary conclusions were made, president Mustafa... Еще Akinci said: «We are facing a military tool which has come from outside. No one knows exactly whether this is a missile or an unmanned combat aircraft or something else but this is our share of this terrible war in our region.»
Later Turkish Cypriot officials suggested the missile was launched by a Syrian anti-aircraft system but missed its target and fell in Northern Cyprus nearly 193 kilometres west of the Syrian territory.
