Violent clashes erupted between protesters and police in the Nigerian capital of Abuja on Monday, following a protest for the release of imprisoned Shi'a Muslim cleric Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. The clashes erupted following a ban that was issued last Friday by the police regarding protests and rallies at the popular Unity Fountain. Ibrahim El-Zakzaky is the leader of Nigeria's Islamic Movement (IMN) and was detained by the Nigerian Army in December 2015. He has remained under state detention since then.
