Clashes occurred between the police and members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) outside the Nigerian Parliament in Abuja on Tuesday. Protesters demanding the release of their imprisoned leader, the Shia Muslim cleric Ibrahim Zakzaky and his wife.

According to reports, the National Assembly was on lockdown after shots were fired during the confrontation between the police and protesters.
Police said six officers were injured, while the IMN reports two protesters were killed.
Ibrahim Zakzaky has been in detention since 2015, following huge protests in Zaria, during which at least 348 civilians, including Zakzaky's three sons, were reportedly killed by the Nigerian Army.
