Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez met with his Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte in The Hague on Monday to discuss the EU’s planned European Recovery Fund, aimed at dealing with the aftermath of the COVID-19 crisis.
Shortly before the meeting, Rutte urged Sanchez «to look for a solution» within Spain and stated that «it will not be easy» to reach an agreement on economic compensation to counteract the impact of the pandemic within the EU.
The Netherlands is the first stop on the tour that the Spanish leader plans to carry out this week. He is holding discussions ahead of the European negotiations due to take place this weekend. On Tuesday Sanchez will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Germany and on Wednesday he will travel to Sweden.
