Residents of The Hague reacted to the resignation of Dutch Foreign Minister Halbe Zijlstra on Tuesday. Some locals welcomed his resignation: «I completely support that,» one citizen said. «If the Netherlands wants to remain credible you can't have people saying that your minister is lying about being at a location at a specific time. That's not right,» she added. Zijlstra had made claims that... Еще he personally overheard Russian President Vladimir Putin make set out plans for a 'Greater Russian' which would include the Baltic States, currently all within the European Union. Zijlstra has subsequently admitted that he had not been at the meeting, however Zijlstra maintained that Putin did in fact say these things, but he was protecting his source by claiming he himself heard them. It came to light that Dutch President Mark Rutte was aware of the lie, which resulted in a vote of no confidence that Rutte was able to survive. Zijlstra's resignation came at an awkward time as he was set to fly out to Russia to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that same Tuesday.
