Daring Dutch swimmers welcomed in 2018 with the annual New Year’s Dive at the Kurhaus pier in Scheveningen on Monday. Every year The Hague hosts the Netherland’s largest New Year’s dive in Scheveningen, where hundreds brace the freezing waters of the North Sea. Participants paid a registration fee and warmed themselves up by dancing on the beach before charging towards the icy waters, which at... Еще this time of the year dips to around 5 degrees Celsius. The event harkens back to the opening of the first public bath house in Scheveningen 200 years ago in 1818. Swimmers are encouraged to honour the tradition by wearing vintage bathing suits, with the best dressed winning a stay in the local Kurhaus Hotel. Around 9,800 people are believed to have participated this year.
