Legendary Dutch footballer Arjen Robben said that 'club-love' was behind his shock decision to come out of retirement to play for his first club FC Gronigen at a press conference in Gronigen on Sunday.
“We always have been in contact from the moment I left the club at 18 years old, the connection has always been there,» said Robben.
«Why do you do this, why do you come back as a footballer for FC Groningen, I think you can describe in one word and that is club-love. It is the combination with FC Groningen and that is why I am doing this. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't plan for a return, said the Dutch player..
Robben played for German giants Bayern Munich from 2009 to 2019 and before announcing his retirement from the professional game in June 2019.
The player, who was born in Bedum, just outside Gronigen, is now in training to return to his home team where he began his professional career in 2000.
