Pope Francis arrived in Myanmar on his first papal visit to the Southeast Asian nation on Monday amid the growing Rohingya crisis. After landing at Yangon airport, the Pope was greeted by representatives of political and religious confessions as well as children wearing traditional garments. The Pope is due to meet with 1st State Counsellor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi and Commander-in-Chief Min... Еще Aung Hlaing later in the day. His trip is fraught with diplomatic risk and will likely require a balancing act amid the Rohingya refugee crisis, which the head of the Catholic Church has previously condemned. Around 600,000 people are believed to have fled Myanmar since late August, the majority of them Rohingya, amid widespread reports of indiscriminate killings, arson, looting and rape by the Myanmar military.
