Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo was named the 2016/17 UEFA Men's Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and for the third time in his career during an award ceremony at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, Thursday.

Еще was chosen ahead of Juventus' legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi, who made up final three nominees for the 2016/17 UEFA Men's Player of the Year Award.
The three players were selected by a jury comprising of the 80 coaches of the clubs which participated in the group stage of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, along with 55 journalists selected by the European Sports Media (ESM) group, representing each of UEFA's member associations. Players were judged on their performances in all competitions — domestic, continental and international.
This is the third time Ronaldo has claimed the award. The player also claimed the title in the 2013/14 season and last year's 2015/16 season.
Real Madrid's Director of Institutional Relations Emilio Butragueno called it «an honour and a privilege» for Real Madrid to have a player of Ronaldo's status. «He is a very decisive player, the best player in the world,» he went on to say.
