A four-day peace march by family members of murdered or missing Mexicans ended in confrontations with government supporters in Mexico City on Sunday.
The march led by activist Javier Sicilia departed from Cuernavaca in the state of Morelos on Thursday.
Participants walked in silence as they held pictures of their dead and missing relatives and anti-violence banners.
Some of them removed one... Еще shoe to honour Mackenzi Langford, the 9-year-old survivor who walked for 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) without a shoe in search for help after a massacre in Chihuahua state last November.
«[if the government] can't use that authority to defend life at some point citizens have to assume a responsibility because life is defended and that is today's call,» said Julian Lebaron, a relative of the victims.
Upon arrival at Mexico City's Zocalo square, the protesters were met by government supporters.
Nearly 35,000 homicides were registered in Mexico last year, making it the most violent year in the country's history.
