People could be seen cleaning and preparing the bones of their deceased relatives on Thursday in Pomuch, Campeche state, as they prepare for the Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos) celebrations on November 2. Day of the Dead is celebrated throughout Mexico, whereupon people pay their respects to friends and family members who have died. The festivities have existed since the pre-Hispanic era and fuses modern Mexican culture to pre-colonial times. The holiday traditionally takes place near October 31 (All Hallows' Eve), November 1 (All Saints Day) and November 2 (All Souls Day).
