Hundreds of activists demonstrated at Mexico City's historic Zocalo square on Tuesday denouncing plans to decriminalise abortion in the state of Veracruz.
The rally came ahead of debates on the reform in the Supreme Court. Protesters were filmed praying as they held anti-abortion banners.
Veracruz bans abortion except in cases of rape or threat to life of the mother. The Supreme Court will debate on Thursday whether the state law should be reformed.
Currently, only Mexico City and the state of Oaxaca allow abortion to be made up to the 12th week of gestation.
