Mexico's former presidential airplane will be put up for sale after leaving the country for the United States on Monday, the government of new President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced in Mexico City on Sunday.
«We show with facts that the austerity of the federal government is a priority in this new administration,» said Jorge Mendoza, General Director of the state-owned Banobras... Еще development bank, during a press conference at Mexico City's Benito Juarez International Airport.
Lopez Obrador had pledged to put the plane up for sale during his electoral campaign, saying it was a symbol of excess.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner's interior includes a presidential bedroom and a marble-lined bathroom. The jet was purchased for $368 million (€324 million) in November 2012, just before Pena Nieto assumed office as president.
