Soldiers from the Mexican National Guard were deployed along the US border between Ciudad Juarez and El Paso, Texas in a bid by immigration authorities to bolster the frontier on Saturday.
Some 15,000 troops in total have been deployed along Mexico's northern border, with a further 6,000 in the south following pressure from US President Donald Trump.
«The Mexican National Guard has become Trump... Еще's human wall, unfortunately the US border is now in the south of Mexico. We're functioning as a geographic and military barrier on behalf of the United States,» said Fernando Garcia, executive director of Border Network for Human Rights in El Paso.
It is reported that the soldiers are actively detaining people who attempt to cross either border, a departure from previous policy which was to not stop those crossing into the United States.
