Mexicans mark the 'Day of the Dead' with food, funerals and fiestas

Day of the Dead celebrations were held in the community of San Andres Mixquic in the southeast of Mexico City on Friday. Many mourners were seen gathering in the town's cemetery, placing candles and flowers on the graves of their relatives and quietly remembering the deceased. At the same time a big street party took place nearby, with music, food and revellers dressed in traditional skeleton... Еще costumes. «The importance of this tradition is to make sure that people do not forget those who, in their time, gave us everything they could,» explained one of the worshippers. The festivities have existed since the pre-Colonial era and merge Aztec traditions with Christianity. The holiday is celebrated throughout the country and traditionally takes place on October 31 (All Hallows' Eve), November 1 (All Saints Day) and November 2 (All Souls Day).
