French President Emmanuel Macron said the fight against terrorism in Africa's Sahel region is «decisive» for both Africa and Europe while speaking at the Nouakchott Summit in Mauritania's capital on Tuesday.
«Europe, our partners and Americans, neighbouring countries, they’re all here. They are by your side because we are convinced that victory is possible in the Sahel,» Macron said.
«We have improved effectiveness in the fight against terrorism and information exchanges, succeeded in our unique information centre in Niamey [Capital of Niger] and we got spectacular results especially in recent weeks,» he added.
The summit brought together the heads of state of G5 Sahel members Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger, as well as France and Spain with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez also in attendance.
