Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said that search and rescue efforts got underway in Malay territorial waters, in Putrajaya, Monday, after the US guided-missile destroyer USS John S McCain collided with an oil tanker near the Straits of Malacca, leaving ten sailors missing and at least five sailors injured. Addressing the press from the MMEA headquarters in Putrajaya, MMEA Director... Еще-General Datuk Zulkifli Abu Bakar said the collision «happened in Malaysian waters, specifically in Teluk Ramunia waters,» as opposed to reports suggesting the collision happened in Singapore waters. «We have dispatched a search and rescue asset on the ground,» Abu Bakar confirmed, adding that the US Navy is «involved in this search and rescue effort.» According to local media, the destroyer collided with the merchant vessel Alnic MC as it headed towards Singapore's port.
