Malaysia: Iran's Rouhani touts developments in country's nuclear tech

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani drew attention to progress his country has made in the face of US sanctions including new advances in its nuclear capabilities. He made the comments at a press conference in the Malaysian capital on Wednesday as part of the Kuala Lumpur Summit 2019. «Regarding nuclear issues, as they [the USA] did not act on their commitments [under the JCPOA], we have launched... Еще new nuclear cascades and centrifuges,» he said. «Now, our IR-6 centrifuge is working instead of the IR-1. Moreover, during this time, we have come up with a new type of centrifuge named IR-9 and this is at the testing stage now,» he added. Both the IR-6 and IR-9 centrifuges are reported to be faster, or potentially faster, that those previously in use, allowing for uranium to be enriched at a quicker rate. Iran has been increasing its nuclear activities ever since the US withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal last year and imposed new sanctions on Tehran. Rouhani also praised what he described as the resourceful of the Iranian people in the face of sanctions. «Iranians have faced daily problems regarding food, medication, and their necessary services. However, our people have stood against these issues and prevailed; they even turned these problems and threats into opportunities on some occasions,» he said. The Kuala Lumpur Summit 2019 brings together world leaders to address issues facing Muslim countries. **RESTRICTIONS: NO Access Israel Media/Persian Language TV Stations Outside Iran/Strictly No Access BBC Persian/VOA Persian/Manoto-1 TV/Iran International**
