The Cliff Diving World Cup took place in Simeiz, Crimea, on Friday, with 12 athletes from different continents participating in the competition. Each of the athletes performed three jumps from a height of 23 meters (75.5 feet), directly into the Black Sea.
This is the first time the contest was held in Crimea, with participating countries including Ukraine, Columbia, Mexico, Czech Republic, USA... Еще, UK, Russia, Bulgaria and Luxembourg.
The decision to hold the competition in Crimea caused contention with Ukraine. One orgainser said, «Two athletes could not come, they refused because they were influenced by their sponsors and threats from Ukraine. Letters were sent to everyone, including us, the organisers».
The winner was British diver Gary Hunt, with American diver Andrew Jones and Russian diver Artyom Silchenko coming second and third respectively.
