German Chancellor Angela Merkel called the presence of the German troops within NATO in Lithuania «a symbol» of «close» relationship with the Baltic state while speaking at a joint press-conference with Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite in Vilnius on Friday. Speaking about the German-Lithuanian bilateral relationship at the pre-talks press conference, Merkel highlighted that the countries... Еще are connected by strong economic, political and cultural ties. The Chancellor noted that both countries work «very closely together» in the EU on a range of issues, naming migration and inner security as examples. She added that the countries also place an emphasis on dealing with the question of trade and «the difficult negotiations with the United States of America.» Merkel praised the Lithuanian President as «a big authority in European discussions» who plays a role when some issues need to be solved head on. Later in the day the German Chancellor headed to the town of Rukla where the German-led NATO multinational battalion has been deployed since last year.
