Thousands marched in Tripoli on Friday, to protest against the intensified fighting around the capital, and the attempts of the Libyan National Army (LNA) to establish control over it.
Protesters said they will «protect» the city of Tripoli from Libyan General Khalifa Haftar.
«The demonstrators came to express their refusal to such aggression, and also [express] their solidarity with their... Еще fighting sons and the Libyan Army of the al-Wifaq al-Watani (Iraqi National Accord political party) government,» a protester said.
For Abdullah, Khalifa Haftar will «never enter Tripoli even if we all die.»
Approximately 4,500 Tripoli residents have so far been displaced due to the ongoing clashes, according to the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA).
On Wednesday, footage surfaced allegedly showing LNA troops celebrating, after they claimed to have taken control over the Brigade N*42 base in Ain Zara, southern Tripoli.
The LNA, which controls eastern Libya, is aiming to take over territory from the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA), including Tripoli. The country has been split between the two rival sides since 2014.
