Lebanon: Protesters set fire to US, Israeli flags over demarcations talks

A group of protesters burned US and Israeli flags outside a UN base in the southern Lebanese border town of Naqoura, on Wednesday, to decry the third round of border demarcation negotiations between Lebanon and Israel. The protesters from the Communist Party were seen chanting slogans and holding banners outside the UN headquarters. «We are here to say no to this normalisation with the Zionist enemy, and this corrupt country [Lebanon] has risen to improve its situation again and is corruption,» said one of the protesters. Israeli and Lebanese delegations met to discuss their disputed maritime border during the day. The meetings, hosted by the United Nations and moderated by the United States, have been considered a significant step towards a potential agreement over the territorial delineation of an area targeted for offshore energy exploration.
