Lebanese ambassador to Germany and Prime Minister-designate Mustapha Adib met with the Lebanese President Michel Aoun and Lebanese parliament speaker Nabih Berri, at the Baabda Palace overlooking Beirut on Monday.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Adib stated, «I had the honour to meet His Excellency the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, and he informed me of the decision of the MPs in the binding consultations to assign me to form the new Lebanese government.»
The nomination comes a few days ahead of a scheduled visit of French President Emmanuel Macron. Macron was the first foreign leader to visit Beirut in the wake of the blasts.
On August 4, Beirut was rocked by two port explosions which killed at least 190 people, injured 6,500, and displaced over 300,000.
The blasts triggered violent protests which forced the previous cabinet to resign.
