Lebanese President Michel Aoun met with members of the International Support Group for Lebanon and ambassadors of Security Council member states in Beirut, Friday. The meetings come amid the recent escalation of tensions in the region after the resignation of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri during a trip to Saudi Arabia, where he is still present. Aoun reportedly told the group he had fears... Еще regarding Hariri's situation and that he would await the prime minister's return in order to hear the reason behind his resignation. The president also reportedly briefed the group on measures being taken to strengthen national unity, and maintain a stable security and economic environment. The ISGL brings together representatives of Security Council member states alongside Germany, Italy, the European Union and the Arab League, and was established in 2013 to help Lebanon’s state institutions and military deal with the influx of refugees from neighbouring Syria, and security incidents linked to the Syrian war.
