Hundreds of anti-government activists marched through Beirut on Saturday protesting against the crumbling economy and demanding the resignation of the government.
’’The aim of the protest today is to overthrow the regime and the transitional government in order for it to hand over power in a peaceful manner and move to a civilian state,’’ said one of protesters.
Demonstrators were seen holding banners and chanting anti-government slogans. Similar protests took place in other parts of Lebanon.
Protests against the government corruption broke out last year across the country as Lebanon was facing its worst crisis in decades. The COVID-19 pandemic added more pressure on the struggling economy, prompting a new wave of rallies despite social distancing restrictions.
