Hundreds of people gathered in front of Lebanon's military court in Beirut on Thursday to demand the release of activists detained in last week's protests.
Several protesters were arrested in north and east Lebanon in demonstrations against government corruption and the deterioration of living standards and soaring unemployment.
«We will remain in the squares upon completion of the topic of... Еще corona and health protection, you will see people with thousands in the street and squares because hunger is coming and because of the practices of this arbitrary authority,» said Ali Abass, one of the demonstrators.
Protesters can be seen holding banners in front of the Justice Palace denouncing the «rule of militias» and the arrests of activists, as well as signs demanding the independence of the judiciary.
Demonstrations in the country broke out in October, as Lebanon was facing its worst economic crisis in decades. The lockdown imposed to battle the spread of coronavirus has further aggravated the fledgling Lebanese economy, prompting fresh protests.
