Lebanon: Hezbollah opposes government resignation amid protests

As protests hit the Lebanese capital for the third day in a row, Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah said the group does not want the government to resign, while speaking on a broadcasted address in Beirut on Saturday. «We do not support the resignation of the current government. We do not support it,» stressed the influential leader. Nasrallah went on to warn the government that new... Еще taxes may push Hezbollah to take to the streets. «We hope that this will not happen, but if the time comes, you will find us in the streets, everywhere,» he said. «It will mean that the country will go on a different path.» Lebanon is seeing a massive wave of protests since Thursday when the heavily-indebted Lebanese government unveiled several new measures to raise revenue in an attempt to balance their large budget deficit. They included a tax of 20 cents per day for calls made through the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), such as WhatsApp and Facebook calls. The proposal was later withdrawn.
