Secretary General of the Hezbollah group Hassan Nasrallah called for a new Palestinian uprising following US President Donald Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, in a televised speech, from Beirut on Thursday. Nasrallah said, «We support the call for a new Palestinian intifada [uprising] and escalating the resistance. It is the biggest, most important and gravest... Еще response to the American decision.» He went on to say that Trump's decision on Jerusalem is «a major historical injustice» and an act of «blatant aggression» against «the whole Islamic nation» of Palestine. Trump recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on Wednesday in a live televised address from Washington D.C. He also began the process of moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv. The decision caused an immediate outrage and fury from countries in the Islamic world. The status of the Holy City is a contentious issue in the Middle East peace process. Israel has always claimed Jerusalem as its capital while Palestinians demand that annexed East Jerusalem becomes the capital of a future Palestinian state.
